Rockband Further Closes Gap Between Games And Music

November 7th, 2007 by admin

(London, UK) - Earlier we announced MTV’s move into the games industry; not a strange thought as the market for games alone is already surpassing the market for movies (if we are to trust research firm Nielsen Sound Scan). Fact is that they have joined forces with games market leader EA games to bring Rockband to Sony’s PS 3, the PS2 and Microsoft’s XBox 360.

The game, which is about to hit the stores from November 20th onwards, is designed to allow players to ‘perform’ music from some of the world’s biggest rock artists, with different gamers playing different instruments. According to current report, the package, which is said to retail at a whopping 169 euro, is to include drum, (bass) guitar and mic replica peripherals.

Rock band allows players to perform in a virtual band, by hitting ‘notes’ that are depicted on-screen. In fact, through on-line capabilities of consoles (PS2 excluded), people can interact online, performing famous rock tracks in a karaoke-like multi instrumental fashion.

The game marks a milestone in the joint development of music-computer games, as it surpasses the number of integrated tracks of any other game; moreover, users are stimulated to purchase and download new tracks, as hundreds of tracks are scheduled for release in the new format. We are eager to see the first serious live performers implement the toys into their live sets.

The setlist for the game:

1960s Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter" 1970s Aerosmith "Train Kept a Rollin’"* The Who "Won’t Get Fooled Again" Boston "Foreplay/Long Time" Mountain "Mississippi Queen"* The Police "Next to You" David Bowie "Suffragette City" Black Sabbath "Paranoid"* Blue Oyster Cult "Don’t Fear the Reaper" The Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop" Deep Purple "Highway Star" KISS "Detroit Rock City" Molly Hatchet "Flirtin’ With Disaster" The Outlaws "Green Grass & High Tides"* Sweet "Ballroom Blitz"* 1980s Rush "Tom Sawyer"* Bon Jovi "Wanted Dead or Alive" The Clash "Should I Stay or Should I Go" Faith No More "Epic" R.E.M.
