This version of Quickies focuses on new rock and old jazz. One thing they have in common: it's all good. The Eagles Long Road Out Of EdenI haven't had enough time to give this the in-depth evaluation it deserves (and thus, it's a "quickie"). The first release of all new songs by this major act in twenty-eight years clearly deserves one but my initial impression is this is a record that plays to all their strengths: crisp songwriting by the Frey/Henley partnership ("I Love To Watch A Woman Dance" is drop dead gorgeous) and simple but precise musicianship and gorgeous harmonies.

Although this week's list of new album releases is a bit shorter than we have seen in recent weeks, it is by no means less noteworthy.
In this week's batch of potential stocking stuffers, we have the studio return after twenty eight years of one of the best selling rock acts ever. While in another much talked about "comeback," a certain dance-pop princess attempts to shake off the dust from her MTV Video Music Awards disaster, with her own return to active duty after four years of…

The timid finger gently taps the back of the dancing concertgoer, currently engaged in a grotesque pelvic thrust that is part macarena, part electric slide, and all horror.
The concertgoer spins around as if shook from a dream, to hear a kind request to sit down so that the face of the timid finger can see the performer on the stage. The dancer answers by gruffly threatening future physical abnormalities and by telling the person to do something to herself that is physically impossible.

UK electronic/techno pioneers Black Dog chatted to Skrufff this week about the upcoming re-issue of their early 90s classic ‘Transparent Temple Balls’ and new single ‘Flood’, revealing they’re supremely unconcerned about the dangers posed by global warming. “Hand on heart, I don’t care if New York or Miami are swamped,” said Black Dog founder member Ken Downie, “And if it could take California with it, I would be over the moon,” he laughed.

Officially, the Woodstock museum is known as the Museum at Bethel Woods, and is due to open next year. Bethel is the upstate New York town where organizers eventually put on the three-day Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969. “Our plans haven’t changed,” said Ellyn Solis, spokeswoman for the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which is developing the museum as the newest part of its 2,000-acre performing arts venue.

I'm put my music collection on shuffle mode and talking about the songs that come up. I'm less interested in giving a simple review of each song than I am in the personal emotions and memories these songs conjure. I prefer to talk about music as an experience rather than something to be measured scientifically. “Many Rivers To Cross” – Jimmy CliffFrom 12/17/01There is a line in High Fidelity where John Cusack runs down his top five songs to play at his funeral.

Would work with XL, Side One, and Dave Matthews’ label, retain ownership Well, at least it ain’t Starbucks. As rumored for a little while– and reported this morning in The New York Times– Radiohead are, in the Times’ words, "close to signing a series of deals to release [In Rainbows] independently and leave the major record companies behind." The proposed deals would have Thom Yorke and the boys working with Coran Capshaw– Dave Matthews Band manager and co-owner, along with Matthews himself and others, of ATO Records– in the United States.
