Nat King Cole’s 10th Anniversary was a momentous release in 1955 because it marked one of the first times a label mined its vaults and released unreleased tracks to the public. Such a practice might not seem like a big deal in the “download age,” but back in good ol’ ’55, it was something out of the ordinary.
Cole was a substantial success since he had signed with Capitol Records in 1943 as the leader of the King Cole Trio.

The artful television director Tony Palmer set his video footage of Tangerine Dream's 1975 Coventry Cathedral concert to music from the band's Ricochet album, for broadcast on the BBC. Since then the video has been available in poor quality bootlegs, but now here it is in a new DVD release.
Combining psychedelic effects with the cathedral's own architectural and artistic imagery, Palmer created an extended music video for a band whose performances, at that time, consisted of expressionless manipulation of analog synthesizers.

Los Angeles indie duo The Bird And The Bee sure does like making music, releasing its second EP One Too Many Hearts after having already released the EP Please Clap Your Hands mere months after the band’s self-titled debut album hit the store shelves. The band (Inara “Bird” George — vocals, Greg “Bee” Kurstin — producer, guitar) just has too much creativity, although this latest release did have something to do with a little holiday called Valentine’s Day.

London’s Mayor Ken Livingstone confirmed this week that the Astoria is definitely to be demolished despite a campaign to save the legendary club/gig venue. “There are some instances where that just physically isn’t possible,” Livingstone told reporters. “The construction of (underground railway) Crossrail means that the Astoria can’t be saved.” The massive building project means underground basement club the Ghetto is also facing demolition meaning the closure of seminal electroclash nightclub Nag Nag Nag, said club founder/resident DJ Fil OK.

With their self-titled debut, Connecticut-based Bushwhack delivers an atmospheric blend of experimental prog-rock that conjures up thoughts of Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree while maintaining their own original sound. The band’s members, some of whom have known each other since the first grade, are all 18- to 19-years old and the band is a four-piece instrumental outfit.
That’s right – no singer.

Recorded and produced with the help of fellow Berlin-based artist AGF this winter, Ellen Allien’s fourth solo LP, SOOL, is due May 27 on her own long-running label BPitch Control. "Minimal" appears to be the keyword when it comes to SOOL, about which Allien had this to say in a press release: "What does minimal mean to me? Minimal is just there. Permuting that, shaping this kind of immediacy with my own hands - that was close to my heart." Sounds good, no?

Looks like Lindsay Lohan may have swapped an addiction to drugs and alochol for an addiction to the ladies. Lilo, notoriously close with DJ to the stars Samantha Ronson (pictured above right), has added another sapphic pal to the mix, and there’s trouble in post-rehab paradise. Ronson — who was famously photographed attempting to cover up a passed out Lohan in a car just days before her admittance to rehab — has continued to hang out with Lohan, most recently flying to Long Island with the star to visit her ailing grandfather.
