Wanting to catch what Perry Farrell was up to on the Sahara Tent at 2pm had my friend Todd and I leave early from Orange County. We hit no traffic until we were right outside the parking lot. The consequence of such light crowds early on meant that the line to get in wasn’t long, allowing the security check to be more intense. Yet, plenty of people still got weed and pipes into the place.
Farrell started 23 minutes late, but no one seemed to mind because they were in the shade.

(Amsterdam, NL) - Armin van Buuren, the number one DJ in the world… according to DJ Mag and her readers. When I first got into the trance scene I was a big fan of Armin, especially for his radio show A State Of Trance, broadcast on Slam FM (later ID&T Radio) back then. When you grow more and more into the addictive scene called ‘trance music’ feelings fade and you get more mature.

Last time we played Coachella we were in the middle of a U.S. tour with the Killers. I had whooping cough and was a few weeks away from getting pneumonia and nearly dying so I didn’t want to be there.* This year was a whole different story. We’re three years older and three years more experienced and have played tons of festivals since. Our set fell in between the Breeders and the Raconteurs and this of course was all we could think about in the days leading up to the show.

“Now from Hawthorne, California, with a gala concert and a recording session the fabulous Beach Boys.” Those words launched the Beach Boys into there first live concert recording which would result in a Number One album.
I have always thought it a bit odd that Beach Boys Concert would not only be the Beach Boys first Number One album but would be their only Number One album issued in the 1960s.

It’s a CD that might be best enjoyed with a bucket of popcorn and box of Ju Ju beans.
That’s probably the way Barry Adamson intends for it to be, too. Ever since his first solo album Moss Side Story almost two decades ago, Adamson has parlayed his enthusiasm for classic cinema into nearly every release since. His “soundtracks without movies” have even turned into work on creating actual movie scoring work, most notably from David Lynch.

Rock Daily recently crashed Joseph Arthur’s Rolling Stone style shoot at the singer/songwriters Brooklyn, New York art gallery (what he has dubbed the the MOMAR — Museum of Modern Arthur). He gave us a tour of his creative haven, which includes a gallery, painting studio, performance stage and even a self-built recording studio. Arthur is an art producing machine — this year he will release 4 EPs and a full-length album with his band, and has piles of paintings in his joint.

Somehow I had managed to convince my wife that attending the Okkervil River/New Pornographers concert in St. Louis was the best way to spend our two-year anniversary. Certainly better than a quiet, romantic dinner and a few glasses of wine.

Artists in all fields of expression have one basic thing in common: what they are attempting to do. All artists spend their days either looking for the inspiration that will give them the vision for their next project, or desperately trying to actualize that vision so it can be appreciated by others. Where it can get especially tricky is if you're trying to realize a concept that can't just be spelled out.
